On Sunday 30th July, Piako held its NZAFTA sanctions shoot. The weather turned on a near perfect Winters’ day for shooting; no rain, minimal wind, and a warm sun. However, as often happens on the Piako range, the surprise wind gusts gave the 16 shooters an unpredictable challenge which kept them all on their toes.
Taking out the overall top score on the day was Rob D, with his trusty springer, which saw him only miss three shots!
Healthy competition, friendly banter and good camaraderie were the true winners on the day and showcased everything that field target shooting represents. Overall, it was a successful day for all who attended, despite what their score sheet may have said.
The Interclub Competition was also played between Piako and North Harbour. With North Harbour taking home the illustrious Zooboy Trophy.
At the post lunch prize-giving, prizes and certificates were awarded to the first, second and third places for both PCP and springer shooters plus a number of spot prizes were drawn to allow everyone to share in the winners’ joy.
A special thanks to the Piako Club Members who sponsored and funded the prizes, and to the range officers who volunteered their time.
On a personal note, it was great to see so many people travel near and far to attend and to see everyone either reconnecting with old friends or making new ones, and altogether, thoroughly enjoying the day. I look forward to the next NZAFTA shoot. Details to come…
