NZAFTA Field Target Nationals 2023 - Day 1 - Spring Piston 21/10/2023
North Harbour Air Gun Club hosting their first National Championship at their relocation venue at North Auckland Deerstalkers in Riverhead, Auckland, this Labour Weekend.
Conditions on the first day fairly calm and cloudy to begin with and a moderate 17 degrees. As the clouds cleared, the sun cranked up the heat into the mid to upper twenties with many shooters reaching for their water bottles.
Just 8 shooters in the competition this day and a 50 target course set with 13 lanes. Shooters were tested as they navigated a busy main field with targets spanning wide angles. Some quite elevated targets were a new experience for some. The spring flowers in bloom in lane 1 were a nice treat. Some neat new targets were a success and a pleasure to shoot with creative placement. At the completion of the 50 target competition a tie for 3rd place saw Patrick and Earle heading to the shoot-off lane with Patrick taking honours for 3rd.
After a quick target respray to prepare for PCP day tomorrow we all retreated to the clubhouse to refresh and refuel after what has been a challenging day.
